Motherhood

Now I have to warn you that things got very complicated from this point on! It’s a common theme when dealing with Grecons.

Upon returning to Grecondale, Cedric and Isla took up residence in Cedric’s Triang Stockbroker and, putting her acting aspirations firmly behind her, Isla’s thoughts soon turned to having a family.  However, being of more advanced years and having three grown-up children from his previous marriage, Cedric wasn’t keen. Undeterred, Isla came up with a solution.

Cedric’s eldest child Bernard had recently lost his wife when she died during childbirth, leaving him to bring up his daughter Sylvia (named after Cedric’s first wife) all alone.  Inviting Bernard for dinner with Cedric and herself one evening, Isla suggested that he and Sylvia come to live with them, thereby solving his childcare problems and satisfying her own need to nurture a child at the same time.  Bernard accepted gratefully.

However, Isla ended up with more than she’d bargained for and soon tired of her responsibilities when a second baby was mysteriously left on the doorstep of the Stockbroker.

It was at this point that a dark secret was uncovered. Bernard confessed to Cedric that his wife had in fact given birth to twins in the hospital where she’d passed away. At the same time, another lady on the maternity ward, called Rita, very tragically lost her baby during a complicated birth. Daunted at the prospect of bringing up twins single-handedly, Bernard and Rita had agreed that she would take one of the twins home with her.
