Grecondale Senior Service

We have already met Cedric and his sister-in-law, Ophelia who are both of more advanced years but there are other senior citizens in Grecondale.  Front parlours around the village, The Wool & Wire Tearoom and Curl up and Dye hair salon are frequently alive with the chink of china  teacups, the clicking of knitting needles and the whiff of setting lotion.

Dorcas and Kitty are two elderly but sprightly sisters who live in the Lines No. 36.  Both being spinsters of the parish, they keep each other company and, despite being as alike as chalk and cheese, they rub along very well.

Dorcas, the eldest sister, is rather serious and practical, whereas flighty Kitty [wearing pink in the above photo]  is given to frequent scattiness.  It was silly Kitty who, believing she was sending away for a set of five wall-hanging crucifixes, lumbered the devout Catholic sisters with a delivery of no less than fifty of them. [Or was she framed by the silly Human Bean??]   Their attempts to off-load the excess crucifixes have led to a reputation for missionary work across the whole of Grecodom.

The sisters are wonderful organisers and compassionate little bodies.  Wherever there is a WI fund-raising event, church jumble-sale or Scout jamboree, the pair are sure be found in the midst of it.

Though we haven’t seen much of them, husband and wife, Melvin and Phyllis, live in the Lines No. 17 and often have Dorcas and Kitty around for afternoon tea.  In contrast to his dour wife, Melvin is a lively chap with a wicked sense of humour and a tendency to drink too much.  Melvin and Kitty get along like a house on fire and consequently, the two of them often end up very much the worse for wear by the end of their little afternoon get-togethers.
